MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An Eden Valley woman pleaded guilty Friday to shooting her ex-boyfriend eight times in his Brooklyn Center home, killing him in February.
Rochelle Lynn Inselman, 39, pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Bret Struck, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said. Inselman was initially indicted for first-degree murder and faced life in prison without parole. Now she faces 40 years in prison.
When answering questions from her lawyer, Inselman acknowledged to carrying a 9 mm handgun when she went to Struck’s home on the night of Feb. 12.
“I wanted to discuss things with him,” Inselman said.
Struck let Inselman into his home, not knowing she had a gun. An argument started. Inselman said she pulled out the gun, fired it nine times, striking Struck eight times.
When asked if she wanted to kill Struck, Inselman said: “I think so.”
The gun used in the shooting was never found, the attorney’s office said. However, the gun case was picked up in a rest stop near Clearwater by a maintenance worker. He told authorities about it, helping them link Inselman to the shooting.
According to a criminal complaint, Inselman was obsessed with Struck since the two broke up in 2004. She stole his identity to open credit card accounts and hacked into his Facebook, sending defamatory messages to his friends and family.
Inselman, however, was deemed fit for trial by the court’s psychological services, the attorney’s office said.
Inselman will be officially sentenced to 40 years in prison Tuesday.
