ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) — A 28-year-old Walker man has been charged with allegedly shooting a man multiple times, killing him, before being shot by a deputy, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
Marcus Michael Barshaw faces one count of second-degree intentional murder. The investigation is ongoing and other charges may be filed in the future.
Police say Barshaw shot 30-year-old Jeffery Schutz dead in front of two or three other people around 4 a.m. Sunday inside a Rockville apartment. Police say Barshaw was an acquaintance of the people in the home.
Barshaw then exited the rear if the apartment building, armed with a SKS-style scoped assault rifle and a small handgun on him at the time of the shooting.
“The officers surrounding the building give verbal commands for him to drop the weapon, that’s done repeatedly,” Sanner said. “He does not drop the weapon, in fact, he raises the weapon and at that time, law enforcement shoots him.”
Barshaw was wounded by the gunfire and is currently receiving medical treatment. When he is released, his initial court date will be scheduled.
