HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) — A 44-year-old Rosemount man has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene after hitting and killing a 26-year-old woman in Apple Valley, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.

On March 9, 2009, Eric James Hunter hit Joan LeVasseur with his vehicle shortly after 9 a.m. at the intersection of cedar and 153rd Street. LeVasseur later died from her injuries.

Specifically, Hunter pled guilty to a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

“Not only did Mr. Hunter fail to stop at the scene of this accident, he failed to notify police of his involvement in this collision even after learning that the person he hit had died from her injuries,” said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom.

His sentencing is set for Jan. 8, 2013.
