MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An intoxicated semi driver collided with an ATV carrying three children in northern Minnesota Friday, sending all three to the hospital, authorities say.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the incident at around 4 p.m. When the officers arrived at the scene, located on County Road 6 near Automba Township, they found the children, ages 14, 10 and 9, all of which suffered injuries. An ambulance brought all three to Mercy Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are not known.
Officers arrested the semi’s driver, 69-year-old Donald Clark Jr., of Cromwell, for driving under the influence. Alcohol appeared to be a contributing factor in the collision, the sheriff’s office said. Clark is currently in Carlton County Jail, pending formal charges. He suffered no injuries.
The sheriff’s office and the State Patrol are investigating the incident.
