MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities are investigating the shooting of a limousine driver late Friday night in Minneapolis.

Police said the incident happened at around 11 p.m. near the area of 2nd and 27th Avenues in south Minneapolis. Authorities say it appears the limousine was picking up people from a bar when at least two suspects attempted to carjack the vehicle.

Thirty-nine-year-old Celso Soliz was driving the limo. When he was threatened by the suspects, Soliz hit the gas – sending the gunman and his sidekick forward. Next, Soliz quickly hit the brakes, sending the suspects back into their seats – and that is when the gun went off.

Manuel Cumbe was working as the radio dispatcher for A New Star Taxi Company when Soliz called. Cumbe rushed to the scene.

“I am the first driver to find him. So I looked at him and he got shot, a lot of blood,” Cumbe said. “[Soliz] told me he said he did not ask for money or anything. He said there were two guys in the back and he said don’t move get out the car.”

Authorities say the victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Drivers at A New Star Taxi have been told not to pick up fares on corners.

Police say the two suspects drove off with the vehicle. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Minneapolis Police.
