WOODBURY, Minn. (WCCO) – A Woodbury, Minn. woman has been convicted of malicious punishment for beating her boyfriend’s daughter with a wooden spoon.

According to the Washington County Attorney’s Office, 27-year-old Ahavel Scherz was punishing the girl for taking her clothes. The incident happened on April 1.

Scherz forced the 13-year-old girl to kneel on the bare floor for a long period of time while holding a chair above her head.

When the girl was too tired to hold up the chair, she beat her with a wooden spoon multiple times, leaving numerous bruises.

She then forced the girl to wear a shirt with “I have been stealing my dad’s girlfriend’s clothes” and “I am a thief” written on both sides.

“I cannot imagine what this poor child went through that night and following day. Adding to that pain she was forced to come into court and relive that horrible experience in order to bring Scherz to justice,” said Washington County Attorney Pete Orput.

Scherz was convicted of malicious punishment and domestic assault.

She could face up to a year in jail. Sentencing has been scheduled.
