BURNSVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) – Saying they wanted a “stroll down memory lane,” two men were arrested for breaking into Nicollet Junior High School in Burnsville after vandalizing the staff lounge, and one of the suspects was discovered by the K9 unit hiding in a nearby children’s playhouse, police say.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Dakota County, Justin Scott McGuire, 21, of Burnsville, was charged with second-degree burglary and fleeing police officers, both felony offenses.

Police responded to an alarm at 1 a.m. on Aug. 9 at the junior high school. On arrival, police found the two men in the doorway and were told to lie down and that they were under arrest. Police say the suspects instead ran back into the school. Officers then found the staff lounge in disarray, with mustard all over the refrigerator and the microwave on the ground.

McGuire was found in a children’s playhouse in a residential area nearby by a K9 officer, police say.

According to the complaint, McGuire said he and Zachery Ross Rother, 21, both had “a couple of drinks” and entered the school through a door on the roof of the building before vandalizing the staff lounge.
