ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities in St. Cloud put a stop to an illegal gambling operation on Thursday at the Triple Crown Sweepstakes, police said.
Authorities served a search warrant on the operation and confiscated illegal gambling devices, which are similar to slot machines. Triple Crown Sweepstakes opened for business just days after the Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division of the DPS told them that their business would be considered illegal in the state.
The company opened in June and claimed it was raising money for a charity. The plan the company submitted to the state was not in compliance with state law, according to authorities.
Authorities said Triple Crown Sweepstakes allegedly approached several St. Cloud bars claiming that their products had been authorized as electronic pull tabs included in recent stadium legislation. AGED investigators said that was false.
The case has been handed over to the Stearns County Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges.
