MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – St. Paul Police have arrested two men in connection with the Monday morning death of a teenage girl.

Nineteen-year-old Jacob Sawyer and 25-year-old Robert Kibble allegedly gave the girl and her friend a drink containing a mixture of codeine and Sprite, and other drugs. Both have been booked at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on charges of third-degree murder, police said in a release Tuesday.

Officers found the teen who died after a call came in at 10 a.m. Monday, saying a girl was not breathing on the 200 block of Charles Avenue. When officers got to the scene, they were brought to an upstairs bedroom where the teen was lying on a bed, unresponsive.

When medics arrived, they pronounced her dead. Her identity has not been released.

Police then learned that a 17-year-old friend of the deceased was at Region Hospital, recovering from a possible overdose.

That information led investigators to learn the girls had been taken to a party in Burnsville, where they were given alcohol, marijuana and a drink with codeine and Sprite.

The girls drank enough of the codeine and Sprite mixture to feel the effects of the codeine, and after the party, were driven home, police said. Once they got back home, they became ill and went to bed. In the morning, relatives found that one of the girls wasn’t breathing.

Investigators learned that Sawyer and Kibble were identified as having been with the victim at the party. Officers arrested the men after interviewing them, police said.
