MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person was killed and two others were hurt in a triple shooting on the north side of Minneapolis overnight, according to police.
Police said the incident happened just after 11 p.m. Wednesday on the 3600 block of Girard Avenue in Minneapolis. When authorities arrived, three adult males had been shot, one of the men was found dead in an alley.
“There were six gunshots and then I heard some male’s voice moaning and then screaming in agony,” said witness Margarete Frider, who called 911.
Authorities said one of the other two victims was grazed by a gunshot and treated at the scene. The other victim was taken to North Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said it’s the city’s 17th murder of 2012. Last year at this time in North Minneapolis, there were only three.
“I worry about not only myself, but my neighbors. I have good neighbor,” said Frider.
Roberta England is the executive director of the Folwell Neighborhood Association, which works with families in the neighborhood to try and stop the violence.
“We have too many kids on the streets with too much time and no adult connection,” said England, who added it’s up the north side community to save itself. “I think a great deal of the burden relies on the parents, families and other adults in the community.”
It appears everyone involved in the shooting knew each other. Police said no arrests have been made in the incident and they are actively looking for suspects.
The incident is still under investigation.
