MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Mall of America is warning the public about a phone scam in which callers offer to assist in renewing a magazine subscription or other services.
Rich Hoge, vice president of operations at MOA, said he’s “outraged that scammers would target the unsuspecting public in this way.”
“Mall of America is committed to doing all we can to protect the privacy of all individuals,” he said in a release. “It is important for anyone who may receive a call like this to understand that the Mall will never ask for your personal information in this manner.”
In some instances, the caller ID appears to originate from MOA, the mall said. The callers have also known the last four digits of an individual’s social security number.
Mall representatives say the calls do not come from the mall, which has a policy against unsolicited calls to the public.
To report suspicious calls, write the mall at prdept@mallofamerica.com. Also, contact your credit card provider.
