MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A pickup truck lost control Tuesday night in Andover, crossing a median before slamming into a car and then a duplex, authorities said.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office believes alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Lt. Paul Lenzmeier said it happened near the intersection of 134th Avenue and Round Lake Boulevard around 8:30 p.m.

The pickup was traveling southbound on Round Lake when it stopped at a light on 135th Avenue, Lenzmeier said. Alongside another car, the pickup revved its engine before speeding off. The driver lost control and the pickup crossed a median, drove through on-coming traffic, slammed into a parked car and came to rest after hitting the duplex.

Lakesha Wickner, who witnessed the crash, said when the pickup hit the duplex, its back end rose up in the air and hit the house before falling back down again.

“The passenger was looking over at me,” she said. “And I was over here holding these two kids in my arms.”

The two people in the pickup suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Lenzmeier said. Crews took the injured to Mercy Hospital. Their names have not been released.

There were people inside the duplex when the pickup crashed into it, but none suffered injuries. The duplex, however, was knocked off its foundation. But Lenzmeier said it is still habitable.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
