MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A judge issued a ruling Thursday in a multi-million dollar civil case against a man suspected of killing his girlfriend more than 30 years ago.
Aaron Foster was sued by the family of Barbara Winn, which claimed Foster was responsible for her wrongful 1981 shooting death.
When Foster failed to respond, a judge ordered him to pay the family $6 million.
Foster went to court to try to overturn that ruling, and WCCO-TV cameras were allowed inside the courtroom. Foster claimed he wasn’t personally served civil papers notifying him of the suit. The defense also argued that under Minnesota law, a civil action of this kind must be filed within a three-year window of the person’s death.
Judge Margaret Marrinan denied Foster’s request.
